In 2017 I decided to build a backyard cottage in Oakland. How hard could it be?

Turns out: pretty hard. What I thought would be a straightforward construction project became a multi-year adventure through city permits, contractor negotiations, and the many ways reality diverges from architectural drawings.

It's done now and I now know more about concrete than I ever expected.
